Moxibustion

Moxibustion is used in conjunction with acupuncture and entails the burning of the herb mugwort over acupoints for therapeutic purposes. Moxa (short for moxibustion) improves blood circulation and warms the body to restore vitality, thereby relieving pain. It has anti-viral, anti-biotic and anti-parasitic properties. It can improve the immune system by regulating white blood cells.

At Healing River we use both direct and indirect moxibustion. Direct moxa is when a cone shaped moxa is placed directly on the skin and then burns until the patient feels that it is too hot and at that point the moxa cone is removed. Indirect moxa is a moxa stick that is lit and held over an acupuncture point.

We use moxibustion for pain, digestive disorders, infertility, repetitive motion injuries, arthritis, gynecological problems and sports injuries.
